Hi Everybody - I was really on vacation the past three weeks in paradise. No kidding! It's spelled Newfoundland (pronounced new fun land). If you love to hike, fish, climb, canoe, kayak and be around great people at a great price, Newfoundland is undiscovered and so much fun. Here are a bunch of pictures so you can see what you are missing. I've also included some information and websites you can go to for more information........

Recommended places to stay:

Fisher's Loft in Trinity/Port Rexton, Trinity Bay on the East Coast www.fishersloft.com.  Great area to see quaint older towns such as Trinity where you can see the well known 'Trinity Pageant' and other local theatre www.risingtidetheatre.com

Things to do:

One of the top 35 hiking trails in North America is in the area "Skerwink Trail."

Take a boat ride to the remote resettled areas such as Ireland's Eye and British Harbor in Trinity Bay and see Bald Eagles and whales in abundance, as well as icebergs, depending on the time of year.

In Western Newfoundland visit Gros-Morne National Park, www.parkscanada.gc.ca/grosmourne for hiking, kayaking, fly fishing, and sight seeing. Take the Western Brook hike and boat tour www.bontours.ca

On the Northern Peninsula the "Viking Trail' Highway 430 will take you through Port au Choix where there is the most significant Maritime Archaic site in North America. www.pc.gc.ca/portauchoix Eat at the Anchor Café next to the site.

Visit L'Anse aux Meadows which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the Norse first settled in North America 1000 years ago. Stay at Tuckermore Country Inn www.tuckermorelodge.com in Main Brook. The Lodge is close to many hiking trails and sight seeing.  Visit St Anthony where the historic properties for Sir Dr. Wilfred Grenfell.

are situated www.grenfell-properties.com Eat at the Light Keeper's Restaurant at the Fishing Point www.fishingpoint.ca

Just to see this small fraction of the Island of Newfoundland you will need at least 10 days. Several airlines fly into St John's [YYT] on the east coast of the island and to Deer Lake [YDF] on the west coast.

Have fun and enjoy, my wife and I did!
